Working Dog Food
What do you need to know about us?
Here at Maultbys Animal Nutrition we are first and foremost dog owners and enthusiasts. For over 35 years we have been training, working and breeding dogs of many breeds and types. Right from sheep dogs to terriers and lurchers through to all types of working gun dogs we have experience in all breeds of dog and we fully recognise the importance of a solid nutritionally balanced diet to ensure any dog can perform at the highest level in its respective field. Premium Working Dog Food.
Several years ago we recognised there was a gap in the working dog food market for high quality diets to provide the necessary energy a dog requires while in the field. We also saw there were very few diets aimed at older or less active dogs. All of these diets would also need to contain the most up to date ingredients to ensure that the special nutritional needs of working dogs were catered for. We also recognised the need for all of these diets to be available at a reasonable price. This will ensure they are affordable to working dog owners and in particular those with large numbers of dogs.
As a result we began to develop our diets by working with some long-established pet food manufacturers in the UK . Our aim is to provide a comprehensive range of affordable feeds to suit dogs of all ages, from newly weaned puppies through to retired or less active dogs. Our range of diets reflect the needs of these different groups and their specific nutritional requirements.
In more recent years it has become necessary for us to include a range of wheat and wheat gluten free hypoallergenic diets for dogs who may have a sensitivity to these ingredients. Dogs react to food allergies by generally suffering with skin and coat problems. Itchy, red, flaky skin, and a dull coat are common symptoms of food allergies in dogs. It is generally accepted that this condition should be diagnosed by getting advice from your vet who will advise on the course of action. This is mainly achieved by the use of an exclusion diet.
If your dog is found to have a sensitivity to wheat or wheat gluten, then one of our hypoallergenic diets will be ideally suited to their needs. Some people choose to feed these diets as a matter of course even without the presence of intolerances in their dog due to the higher quality of the diet and the fact that they generally have a higher meat content than regular dog food.
Grain Free & Hypoallergenic Diets.
Our range now includes a several completely grain free and hypoallergenic diets. Some of which are the highest quality dry dog foods on the market today. These diets are made without the use of any cereals or grains of any sort. The diets available all use either potato or sweet potato as the main carbohydrate source. These are known to be some of the easiest forms of carbohydrate to digest which further reduces stomach sensitivity.
The diets all use single protein sources. This allows the owner to select a diet that once again suits their particular dog’s taste preferences or any sensitivities they may have to a particular meat. The 70:30 range especially are 70% meat content and are considered to be as close to a raw diet as can be achieved with a dry food. The high meat content and high protein levels mean they can be fed as a whole life food from puppies weaned at 5 weeks of age right through to older animals simply by adjusting the feed quantity accordingly.
Joint Care & Joint Care+ – Chondroitin, Glucosamine & MSM
Here at Maultbys, we have long recognised the huge benefits of Chondroitin, Glucosamine, and more recently MSM, in the long-term health of our dogs. These benefits are widely debated in the animal world, but it has been shown that they are extremely beneficial to dogs who are beginning to struggle with stiff or swollen joints.
Our Premium range of foods have either our Joint Care or Joint Care+ added at the time of manufacture to ensure any dogs fed these diets get a regular dose of these 3 additives in their daily ration. Joint Care has Glucosamine HCl at a rate of 0.05%, Chondroitin sulphate at 0.005% and MSM at 0.005% whereas the Joint Care+ has the rates of Glucosamine HCl at 0.03%, Chondroitin sulphate at 0.03%, MSM at 0.012%.
Chondroitin.
Chondroitin is a compound that occurs naturally in the body and is one of a group of compounds known as glycosaminoglycans, these ѕеrvе an іmроrtаnt rоlе іn thе ѕtruсturе оf саrtіlаgе аnd соntrіbutе tо іtѕ аbіlіtу tо rеѕіѕt соmрrеѕѕіоn fоrсеѕ. Glucosamine.
Glucosamine is also a naturally occurring compound and supplements containing glucosamine are known as Chondroprotective agents and are one of several substances found to treat osteoarthritis in both dogs and also humans. The provision of artificial sources of glucosamine has been shown to not only alleviate the symptoms of osteoarthritis in dogs but if given early they can have a preventative function. Glucosamine is also used by many people as a naturally occurring pain relief medication and has been shown to offer mild to moderate relief in dogs suffering joint pain.
Methylsulphonylmethane (MSM).
MSM is an organic sulphur containing compound which is well known for its benefits to joint health. Recent studies into the effects of MSM have shown it to significantly decrease pain and discomfort caused by various ailments including arthritis, back pain and athletic injuries. MSM has been so effective in helping relieve these problems since its introduction that it has almost surpassed glucosamine and chondroitin as a dietary supplement. It has also been proven as an anti-inflammatory agent by enhancing the activity of Cortisol which is a naturally occurring anti-inflammatory hormone found in the body.
With all of the evidence relating to the long-term health benefits of these three compounds to dogs, along with the relative low costs associated with their inclusion mean leaving them out would be considered false economy.
